SR01: Self Reflection Challenge

Welcome to the self-reflection challenge. The purpose of this challenge is give you the insight and grounding necessary to maximise the lessons you’re learning from your everyday existence.

What is self-reflection?

Self-reflection is a relatively simple and straight forward concept. It’s looking back on the decisions and actions you’ve taken and analysing them for any significant lessons that can be learnt.

Why is self-reflection important?

One of the key elements in powering forward and creating a remarkable life is maximising the amount and frequency lessons you learn. The more you can learn from every moment, the more progress you can make in a shorter amount of time. Self-reflection will ensure no valuable lessons go undiscovered as you complete each day, helping you make the most amount of progress possible towards your ideal life.

Your Challenge

This self-reflection challenge is both simple and easy. All you need to do is sit down at the end of every day and ask and answer some simple questions designed to help you reflect on your day. The questions you need to ask are dependent on the level of challenge you undertake and so are broken down below.

Challenge Level

There are three levels of intensity for this particular challenge, each designed to push the right person out of their comfort zone.

Beginner Level

What: At the end of every day, ask yourself 2 self-reflective questions and record your answers
How: The two questions to ask yourself are:

  1. What did I learn today?
  2. What did I learn about myself today?

If you’re unfamiliar with this process, here is a breakdown of these two questions:

“What did I learn today?” is a question focussed on logical knowledge and information. Every day, you have an opportunity to gather new information, but new information is easy to forget. The easiest way to start to cement that information in your head is to remind yourself every day of the new information you’ve learnt. So, what logical information did you learn today?

“What did I learn about myself today?” is an invitation to turn your spotlight inwards to your likes, dislikes, desires, drives, and motives. There are several different directions you can take this question, depending on the major events that happened during your day, including:

  • What did I learn about what I like?
  • What did I learn about the challenges and barriers I face?
  • What did I learn about how I deal with the challenges and barriers I face?
  • What did I learn about my current life situation?
  • What did I learn about my perception of my current life situation?
  • What did I learn about my fears?
  • What did I learn about how I approach and deal with my fears?
  • What did I learn about how I want to approach and deal with my fears?
  • What did I learn about the life I want to create?
  • What did I learn about the people I want to surround myself with?
  • What did I learn about the kinds of activities I want to fill my life with?
  • What did I learn about my deep motivations?

And just about anything in between. As long as you’re asking about your personal drives, desires, fears, concerns, and anything else in your internal world then you’ve answered this question correctly. So, what did you learn about yourself today?
Frequency: In the evening, every night
Duration: 7 days
For: The beginner level is for anyone who’s mildly interested in taking control of their life, knows they need to do something, but is a bit nervous about committing to anything serious.
You’re finished when: You have answered these two questions every day for 7 days

Intermediate Level

What: At the end of every day, ask yourself 3 self-reflective questions and record your answers
How: The three questions to ask yourself are:

  1. What did I learn today?
  2. What did I learn about myself today?
  3. If I could live today all over again, what would I do differently?
